Bahais of Iran Continue to Be Persecuted by Islamic Government
Thu, Feb 19, 2009
Since 1979 over 200 Baha’is have been executed by Islamic government agencies in Iran. The Islamic government has destroyed Bahai holy places, burned Bahai homes, denied Baha’is access to education and spread propaganda throughout the country labeling Baha’is as spies, terrorists and the like.
Most recently, several key community members of the Baha’is of Iran were kidnapped, charged without any evidence, imprisoned without access to a lawyer and now, one year later, scheduled for a staged trial that will determine their fate. In 1980, the last time a similar event occurred, all who were kidnapped were executed.
Baha’is are a peace loving group of individuals who believe in one God and one progressive religion that has and will be unfolding throughout the progression of humanity. Baha’is believe that all religions communicate the same essential teachings and come from a single source.
Change:
The preservation of the freedom of belief sits at the heart of what is necessary for civilization’s continued upward progress. Whether one is religious or not need not matter. The atrocities occurring against the Baha’is of Iran, against peace loving people that seek only the betterment of their communities, represent the types of threats that all free people ought to stand up against.
Actor Rainn Wilson speaks out about the recent persecution of Baha’is
Everybody ought to have the freedom to believe.
